Watercolor Cardboard Circles

Cardboard coasters are one of my favorite supplies. There are so many fun things you can do with them. They absorb colors beautifully and we have used them with markets, Do-A-Dots, and all types of paints.

9 vibrant cardboard circles painted with liquid watercolors

For this project, I left the kids an invitation to create with just cardboard coasters and liquid watercolors.

F decided to add Sharpies to her work and created a fox face. Then she moved on to mostly monochrome pieces.

R opted to paint and then use an eye dropper to splash colors. I got in on the project as well and especially enjoyed doodling with Sharpie and then filling in the white space with colors!

Materials:

  • white cardboard coasters

  • liquid watercolors

  • Sharpies

  • eye droppers

I kept this project open ended and just set out paint and cardboard circles. The kids decided to add eye droppers and sharpies and took the project in their own directions!

Extensions: A great book pairing for this project is The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds!

A simple invitation to create vibrant circles with cardboard coasters and liquid watercolors by Play All Day Kids. This simple process art project for kids pairs perfectly with The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and would be a great project for International Dot Day!
